MEET THE PPH TEAM

Originally from Hearst, Ontario, Zack Dorval began his hockey journey playing minor hockey for the Hearst Lumberkings, where he won an OHF title with his U15 team in 2012. At just 14 years old, he moved away from home to join the Kapuskasing Flyers AAA U18 program as an underage player. After a successful season, Zack was again on the move to play for the Soo Thunder U16 program in Sault Ste. Marie, where he earned the NOHA Player of the Year award.

His performances led to him being drafted 35th overall in the second round of the OHL Priority Selection Draft by the Kingston Frontenacs, where he played for three seasons before being traded to the Ottawa 67’s in January 2017. After stepping away from competitive hockey to focus on his education, he made a brief return to the game in his hometown, with the Hearst Lumberjacks.

Zack has always enjoyed mentoring young athletes. Throughout his playing career, he was actively involved in hockey development, working at various hockey camps, including PowerPlay Hockey’s training programs. He also gained coaching experience as an assistant coach for the Kapuskasing Flyers for two seasons and as head coach for the Kapuskasing Jaguars U13 team.

Beyond coaching, Zack has been dedicated to mentoring young hockey players in Northern Ontario, whether through one-on-one meetings to share his experiences or by participating as a guest speaker at various hockey events. His love for the game has always been a driving force behind his success, and he takes great pride in helping young athletes develop their skills, mindset, and character.

After taking a break from the game, Zack is now committed to giving back to the sport that shaped him. As a business professor at Université de Hearst, this new project allows him to combine his passion for teaching and hockey development.

With firsthand experience playing at an elite level and an understanding of the challenges faced by young players in the region, Zack is determined to provide top-tier training, mentorship, and guidance to the next generation of hockey talent.

At PowerPlay Hockey Development, Zack’s mission is clear: to help young players reach their full potential by improving their skills, building strong character, and embracing the many benefits that hockey has to offer both on and off the ice.
